Sixteen percent favor the current policy allowing the practice while 74 percent oppose it. There is a gender gap on the issue as 22 percent of the men favor open carry while only 12 percent of women agree.
There is also a political gap with 23 percent of the Republicans in favor, 9 percent of the Democrats agree and independents favor it with 22 percent support.
The second question was: The commission responsible for the state capitol is thinking about providing underground parking behind the state capitol for lawmakers and capitol building employees. Do you strongly favor, favor, oppose or strongly oppose this plan?
Twenty-one percent have no problem with the parking proposal while 39 percent are totally opposed. And there is no disagreement among Republicans and Democrats as 39 percent of the latter and 37 percent of the former oppose the project.
The Denno survey was conducted May 14-16 and has a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
