Most Believe Flint Will Be A Story Into 2017

FROM THE MARCH 21, 2016 EDITION OF MIRS

The Flint water crisis story doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon.

A pop survey last week of MIRS readers by Denno Research found that 55 percent believe coverage of the city’s lead-contaminated municipal water will continue to be a news story next year. Another 21 percent of readers believe the story will die after the presidential election. Fourteen percent said the story would last until the summer. In other survey questions, 48 percent believe the Flint water crisis and the negative audit on the poor treatment of patients the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans will slightly help the House Democrats in the 2016 elections. Only 3 percent thought it would help House Republicans and 36 percent felt like neither situation would help anyone.

However, when it comes to the 2018 gubernatorial race, attitudes changed quickly. Of those who responded 76 percent believe the Flint water crisis and the Veterans Home will help the Democratic nominee.

Of those who responded, 43 percent thought the lingering stories would “seriously” help the Democratic nominee. Another 38 percent thought it would only help the Democratic candidate a “little.” Only 19 percent said it would help “no one.”

If a school janitor was charged with the same crimes as Sen. Virgil SMITH (D-Detroit), 54 percent said there was “No way” the janitor would get the same plea deal as Smith. Another 26 percent said the janitor “probably” would not get the same deal. Only 17 percent thought he’d get the same deal.

Finally, 52 percent of MIRS readers believe Attorney General Bill SCHUETTE will be able to get a felony conviction on both former Reps. Todd COURSER and Cindy GAMRAT. Another 21 percent thought only Courser would be convicted and 23 percent thought both would be felons.

Of those participating in the survey, Scott DARRAGH is the winner of a $10 Biggby gift card.
